General & Track course Requirements

This track is largely controlled by the McKay School of Education and is very rigorous.

Requirements:
-Complete the application
-Advised to apply from end of freshman to end of sophomore year
-Meet application deadlines; Jan 15th or Sept 15th.
-2.85 GPA minimum

The McKay School Advisement Center is full of helpful advise. In fact its required! They advise on directions and specialties and are highly qualified to assist you from your freshman year through graduation. All their job placement does go through the Career Placement Center so you ought to go over and see how things work, 2400 WSC!

It's important that you get a good minor. There are lots of opportunities in Social Science teaching jobs but there tend to be more in the math and science field so you should consider a minor or classes in something outside of Geography to be most marketable.

Many proffesionals in law, business, etc., have been trading the suits and ties for rulers and chalk. There is less money but for them other reward are worth it. Long vacations, a sense of contributing to society, fullfilment etc. are all reasons teaching has become more popular.

Utah Schools. This includes job postings, links to districts all over the State.
National Jobs. Jobs and advise for teaching outside of Utah.
McKay employment Advise. This is great, anything from certification requirements to networking to interviewing advise.
Teachers-Teachers.com is one of the greatest websites out there for future teachers. This has everything from which schools are hiring across the nation to how to build a great resume!

These sites will also help you know what you need to do outside of education to further your options in the work force.

There are thousands of resources in the web if you do general searches. Try terms like teaching jobs, teaching k-12, secondary education, primary education, etc. in engines like yahoo.com, altavista.com, google.com, excite.com, check the monster board, or any other you prefere.
