John R. JensenDr. John R. Jensen (MS ’72) of Chapin, South Carolina, is a Carolina Distinguished Professor of Geography at the University of South Carolina. He specializes in remote sensing of the environment and has developed numerous digital image processing algorithms to monitor the Earth’s ecosystems. He received the Alan Gordon Memorial Award from ASP&RS for achievements in remote sensing and the William T. Pecora Award from NASA and the Department of Interior—the nation’s most prestigious award for remote sensing science. Dr. Jensen has published 127 articles and mentored 60 Masters and 31 PhD students to completion. He has also served on NASA’s Earth-Sun System Science Committee and is a member of the National Academy of Sciences’ Mapping Science Committee. |
