Neuroscience Lecture Promotes Research Participation

By: Christopher Williams
Dr. Justin Frederick of Wake Forest University
presented a lecture on Imaging Modalities at the Neuroscience
seminar Thursday, October 25 on BYU campus.
Frederick’s message was that technology's
advanced imaging techniques are on the cutting edge of
identifying and providing further elucidation of the molecular
underpinnings of several mental diseases.
Mental illness is the leading cause of disability
in young adults, with mental illnesses including anything
from ADD to eating disorders and schizophrenia.
"What I'm doing with this is hoping
to inspire people to conduct this type of research and
to become more involved," Frederick said.
He said people should not feel limited by
what their degree is, whether M.D. or Ph.D. to pursue
their interests in conducting this vital research.
"There are different ways of climbing
Mt Fuji, and we're all climbing the same mountain,"
Frederick said.
